This year, Obuda University organised the 36th Kandó Kálmán Summer University for engineering students from the Hungarian communities beyond Hungary’s borders. Alongside strengthening the students’ sense of identity, the event aims to help them build up their professional vocabulary in Hungarian and to support their professional development. A further objective was to give the participants a picture of where Hungarian industry stands today.

The focus theme of this year’s event was sustainable engineering solutions. The Summer University was organised jointly by the University’s Kandó Kálmán Faculty of Electrical Engineering and its Alba Regia Faculty, and was hosted in Zamárdi this time. The nearly 30 students came from Felvidék, Transylvania, Partium and Vojvodina, and spent just over a week in Hungary. A varied programme of professional and cultural sessions was prepared for them, ranging from a presentation by the Balaton Limnological Research Institute to the role of supercomputers, the development path of 5G and 6G mobile networks, the challenges of developing electric buses, and robotics. Alongside the lectures, there was also time to visit the Retró Rádió studio and the Huniverzum exhibition in Budapest.

On 3 September 2026 the participants spent the day in Székesfehérvár, where Attila Mészáros, Deputy Mayor of the city, introduced them to its history and sights. They visited Videoton Holding Plc., before rounding off the day at the Alba Regia Faculty. On our university campus, Éva Hajnal-Nagy, Associate Professor, and Bálint Farkas, Assistant Lecturer, guided them through the world of industrial robotics.
