Our Students on the Path of Scientific Excellence – OTDK Achievements and Rector’s Commendations

Students of Óbuda University have achieved outstanding results at the 37th National Scientific Students’ Associations Conference (OTDK), held in Pécs between April 23–25, 2025. A total of 34 students from the university received awards, including two students from the Alba Regia Technical Faculty (AMK) who excelled in the Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing division of the Physics, Earth Sciences and Mathematics Section.

AMK Success Stories:

  • Máté Péter Simon (Geoinformatics MSc student)
Determining Harvest Dates from SENTINEL-1 Time Series Using Convolutional Neural Networks
    1st place
    External supervisor: Vivien Pacskó
Institutional supervisor: Dr. habil Gábor Molnár
  • Balázs Böröcz (Assistant Lecturer, former MSc student)
Detection of Robinia Pseudoacacia Forests in Hungary Using SENTINEL-2 Satellite Imagery
    2nd place
Institutional supervisor: Dr. habil Gábor Molnár

Both students received Rector’s Commendations in recognition of their scientific achievements and their contribution to the university’s academic reputation.

The university leadership emphasized that while Óbuda University has a strong presence in several scientific fields, there are areas where further development is needed. To support this, the institution is launching new initiatives and programs to encourage student participation in OTDK and to motivate faculty members to take on supervisory roles.

The focus on results-oriented research is especially important, as Óbuda University will host the Physics, Earth Sciences and Mathematics Section of the OTDK in less than two years.

Congratulations to our award-winning students and their dedicated supervisor!
