A research group from Obuda University’s Alba Regia Faculty has received significant professional recognition for its agricultural research. The RoBOoVaxx automated cattle injection system was awarded the Silver Medal for Innovation at EuroTier, the international livestock farming exhibition held annually in Hanover, Germany.

RoBOoVaxx is an innovative solution that automates cattle injections using RFID identification, robotics and machine vision. The system identifies individual animals through RFID tags and administers the prescribed injection using a robotic arm equipped with a compressed-air injection gun. A 3D camera and machine vision algorithms identify the appropriate injection site, supporting accurate and reliable delivery of the active substance.

The system’s benefits extend beyond reducing manual labour. Precise, appropriately timed injections can contribute to better animal health management, while automation aims to reduce the stress experienced by animals during treatment. The development therefore combines technological innovation with practical animal welfare considerations, addressing important challenges in modern livestock farming.

The research group is led by Dr. habil. Éva Hajnal Nagy. The team members are Bálint Farkas, Assistant Lecturer; Zoltán Szilágyi, Assistant Lecturer; Dr. habil. Károly Széll, Associate Professor; Csaba Bráda, Master Instructor; Dr. Bertalan Beszédes, Assistant Professor; Dr. Csaba Hajdu, Part-Time Lecturer; doctoral students István Jakab, Kornél Szabó and Bence Zsiga; agricultural specialist Áron Simon; and veterinarian Dr. Zsófia Nyerges-Bohák.

The project is being carried out in cooperation with consortium partners Belvárdgyulai Mezőgazdasági Zrt., the consortium leader, and Agrometál Zrt. Their collaboration combines academic research with agricultural and industrial expertise to develop practical technological solutions for livestock production.

The award at EuroTier represents an important achievement for the research team and highlights the potential of robotics and automation to improve efficiency, precision and animal welfare in modern agriculture.
