Strengthening international relations at the AMK

Strengthening international relations is a key objective of Óbuda University. One of the priority target areas is Central Asia, one of the fastest growing regions in the world economy.

Our guests from our strategic partner university, the TIIAME Institute in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, Prof. Dr. Imomov Shavkat Jahonovich, Rector, and Dr. Kodir Sabirov, Head of International Relations Department, discussed with the University of Óbuda about participation in joint mobility programmes, the organisation of joint innovation programmes, the organisation of BSc courses in English, the organisation of internships for Uzbek students, and the joint, shared PhD thesis management.

Among the targeted joint research areas, the potential application of geospatial information technology and remote sensing in agriculture was mentioned. One of the priority research topics is soil degradation, i.e. the continuous deterioration of soil fertility, which is a growing problem in Uzbekistan. The deterioration of soil structure and unfavourable hydrological properties is one of the causes, e.g. the formation of a compact “pad-clay” layer on the surface and/or below the surface, cemented layers. This factor limiting water infiltration into the soil is a very serious problem in the Buhara region. According to the Rector, the thickness of the sealing layer is increasing by almost 1 cm per year. This problem is not unknown in Hungary. In addition to assessing soil degradation by remote sensing and field measurements, the aim of the planned joint research is to develop indicators (indicators) that can be used to characterise the quality of soil problems.

New Double Degree Agreement Signed

NEW DOUBLE DEGREE AGREEMENT SIGNED BETWEEN ÓBUDA UNIVERSITY
AND TASHKENT INSTITUTE OF IRRIGATION AND AGRICULTURAL MECHANIZATION ENGINEERS

One of the main goals of the University of Óbuda is internationalization, where one of the key target areas is Central Asia, including Uzbekistan. Our goal is to develop educational and research cooperation with higher education institutions in Uzbekistan. The rector of our university, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, and the university head of the field, Dr. Monika Pogátsnik, held discussions in 2 ministries, 4 partner universities and 3 Uzbek cities from 11 to 15 October.

The joint Geoinformatics Research Center at the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME), a participating institution in the DSinGIS project, was inaugurated during the visit on October 12th.

During the visit to TIIAME University, the co-operation between our universities was negotiated and an agreement was signed with Prof. Dr. Bakhadir Mirzaev, Acting Rector. The Parties intend to deepen the existing scientific, research and educational relationship between ÓE and TIIAME through a double degree program, which is the subject of this Agreement. The double degree program contributes to raising the standard of training of institutions and provides an opportunity to gain international experience. By signing this co-operation agreement, the Parties express their intention to co-operate in the high-quality training of professionals who, upon completion of the training, will contribute to the training objectives of the basic training program in land surveying and land management engineering.

The higher education institutions agreed on the implementation of a double degree program in the BSc course in Land Surveying and Land Management Engineering at the ÓE and the BSc course in Geodesy and Geoinformatics at the TIIAME. This agreement allows a student enrolled in one of the undergraduate courses at TIIAME or at ÓE to obtain a Hungarian and an Uzbek bachelor’s degree at the same time, provided that he / she fulfills the conditions and requirements of both trainings.

More information about the Double Degree Program you can read here.

Open Day at the Norwegian Hydro IT Organization

What is behind the door of a global, Norwegian-based company? What are the challenges and opportunities for an IT student in a holistic IT organization? The first steps of building a career are not always easy, but a professional collaboration or mentoring relationship with a company that fits our specialization can give you a starting point.
On November 5, as part of the first Hydro Global Business Services (GBS) open day, students from the University of Óbuda had the opportunity to visit the GBS’s office in Székesfehérvár and learn about the opportunities for collaboration open to students.
The half-day program was attended by nearly thirty students who were able to meet with the head of the GBS IT organization, learn about the various IT functions, and listen first-hand to the experiences of fellow students in the program. At the end of the day, those who were more serious could talk directly to a mentor in their field of interest about the possibilities of the function.
While there are a lot of horror stories about improving the coffee-making capabilities of trainees, we can be “disappointed” in GBS in this regard. Their internship program is based on partnership, where the student can gain expertise and the employer can gain a good professional in the future.
Hydro GBS has been working more closely with the university since last year, with six students already participating in their mentoring program. Thanks to this collaboration, the PowerShell course, launched for the second time this semester, is also available and is currently attended by 40 students from Óbuda University.
If you missed out the Hydro GBS internship and mentoring program, but you are interested in it, look for Judit Modné Takács from the university department.

AIS 2021 Conference

For the sixteenth time, we organized the symposium “Applied Informatics and Boundaries” (AIS 2021) at the Technical Faculty of Alba Regia, University of Óbuda. The presentation of the scientific results at the conference also revealed the university’s international and regional relations in higher education, science and industry, as well as the results of recent developments. The conference will hopefully make a major contribution to increasing the competitiveness of companies in Székesfehérvár and the region, and to meeting the long-term technical research and development needs. In addition to the projects completed in the recent period and the presentation of the scientific results, students with outstanding results in talent management were given the opportunity to present their scientific results. The event was held in English, and an online publication with an ISBN number was published with the lectures and posters at the symposium (http://ais.amk.uni-obuda.hu).

4th Alba Regia Higher Education Expo

4th Alba Regia Higher Education Expo
Universities of Székesfehérvár offer modern education

It was the fourth time that secondary school students and their parents had been given detailed information about all the university trainings in Székesfehérvár, emphasizing dual education. The event took place in the Alba Regia Sports Centre, where not only the universities but also the companies of dual education were represented
The Expo was organized by the Fehérvári Programszervező Ltd on the commission of the local government of Székesfehérvár. There were stalls for all the universities of the town: The AMK of Óbuda University, the Corvinus University of Budapest and Kodolányi János University.

At this significant event the company partners in dual education were also present so visitors could obtain hands-on information about the current trainings, the entrance procedure and the concepts of the dual training companies.

In dual education students attend regular courses but at the same time they are trainees at a partner company that provides practical education and a salary as well.  Students in dual training have considerable advantage at the labour market.

Dr. Cser-Palkovics András, mayor of the town requested young people in Székesfehérvár to study and live in the town.
Dr. Györök György, dean of the Alba Regia Technical Faculty OU was talking about all the possibilities of modern education and the importance of personal attention at Óbuda University in Székesfehérvár. He also highlighted the old-established technical education at BSC, MSC and even doctoral levels at AMK OU Székesfehérvár.
